A conversation with Gary

Welcome

Your Course Facilitator

Early in my teaching career I mailed school districts my résumé written as a lesson plan. It landed far more interviews than a standard résumé. This page is the same idea, updated.

Note: Your facilitator is an AI avatar. The script, the syllabus and the jokes are those of its human conceptualizer.

Learning Outcomes

Given a few minutes and a mobile device, you will be able to:

01 · Identify

Design Strengths

Recognize Gary’s core strengths in instructional design, adult learning, educational technology and multimedia production.

02 · Examine

Evidence

Review concrete examples of complex learning design, interactive media, measurable results and emerging-technology experimentation.

03 · Consider

AI in Practice

Consider how emerging AI tools can extend—rather than replace—human creativity, judgment and instructional design.

04 · Decide

Fit

Determine whether Gary’s experience and approach warrant further exploration—or a conversation.

Module 01 · Instructional Design

Learning Before Technology

Tools change. Learners still matter. Gary’s work begins with the learner, the performance problem and the context in which learning must actually work. The two cases selected here show both enterprise complexity and measurable organizational impact.

Reducing Cognitive Friction in Healthcare

How I helped clinical staff get ready for complex EHR go-lives: accessible learning design, built with clinical teams, backed by workflow automation.

Federal 101: National eLearning Award Winner

Creative enterprise learning with measurable completion, multimedia, organizational change and national recognition.

Module 02 · Multimedia & Storytelling

Ideas Made Visible

Sometimes the most effective explanation is not another paragraph. This module focuses on multimedia used instructionally: learner control, interaction, story, audio, video and deliberate production choices that support understanding rather than decorate it.

Increasing Learner Engagement with Interactive Videos

Two examples showing how navigation, embedded questions and multimedia production can turn passive viewing into active participation.

AI-Assisted Digital Storytelling

A multi-tool production experiment showing how one designer can orchestrate voice, avatars, visual generation and motion into a coherent story.

Module 03 · AI in Practice

Human Judgment Is the Point

Generative AI can now create voices, faces, images, motion and virtual performances remarkably quickly. The interesting question is not whether the technology can generate something. It is whether a designer knows what should be created, for whom, and why.

Reflection: The character is artificial. The communication problem isn’t. AI can manufacture performance; deciding what that performance should accomplish remains a human design task.

Module 04 · Experience & Credentials

The Evidence Behind the Work

The guided tour ends with the formal record and the person behind it: professional experience, education, awards, tools, design philosophy and the broader combination of learning design and media-production experience.

Online Résumé

Experience, measurable results, selected evidence, education, professional development and technical capabilities.

About Gary

The design philosophy, media background, workflow and practical approach that sit behind the résumé.

Course Completion

You’ve Reached the End.

No quiz. No certificate. No 47-question Level 1 evaluation. If this brief orientation has raised a few useful questions, then it has done its job.

Estimated seat time: considerably shorter than reading another résumé.
